Commentary

(Aazhi nenjE) Oh my mind deep and vastly spread like the Ocean.
My mind is capable of spreading itself widely in space and depth but the Lord owns 2 worlds (Ubhaya vibhuti Nathan) so there is so much to explore.

(iru nilanum) inexhaustible Landscape;

(mAl visumbhum) comparable to the land, more widely spread cosmos;

(kARRum) The air/atmosphere that provides life for all that exists in both the worlds;

(nerungu thee) The next entity inseparable from the above tattvas, the glowing fire;
(neer) That which is formed as the collective unit of all the above, the water;

(neer vuruvum AanAn) The supreme Lord who is all the above (one who is the antaryami(activating soul) of all the pancha bhoodhas

Azhvar in the above lines makes it clear that this leela vibhuti made up of the pancha bhoodhas is part of emperuman’s divine body.

(porundhum sudarAazhi ondRu vudaiyAn) All the above are part of nature and have transformations but the Lord is aprAkrutham (not part of nature) he has no transformations (eternal). The divine discus in the Lord’s divine hand connotes the Lord’s never changing perpetual nature. Here reference to one of the nithyasooris (sudarAazhi) indicates the whole Nithyavibhoothi thereby”/’;’’;/;azhvar once again drives in the point that all the nithyasooris are part of His divine body.

The Lord’s divine beauty mesmerizes and enslaves all the devotees.

(vudaiyAn soozh kazhalE) The Supreme Lord, owner of the 2 worlds (ubhayavibhuti nAthan), authorized master (vaguththa seshi), one whose beauty never fails to capture the love of devotees.  Like an infant more attracted towards the mother’s breasts, His Excellency’s divine feet is thArakam (that which helps to sustain life), pOshakam (that which helps to grow), bhOkyam (that which aids in enjoyment) for a seshabhoothan (servant). So Azhvar here talks just about the Lord’s divine feet as a representative for the whole body.

(thozhudhu) prostrate the master.  Prostrating suits the nature of a servant.

(varunkAl nAlum thodar) For all the days to come don’t relax, each and everyday follow/fall to that divine feet and experience the joy of servitude.

Forget all the days that have been wasted not falling to His divine feet, atleast from now on don’t waste even a single day without showing yout devotion to your master, instructs azhvar to his mind.

Interesting points from DivyArthdeepikai of kanchi swamy

In the previous paasuram azhvar talked about his mind’s fascination towards the enthralling beauty of the Lord who adorns thiruthuzhai garland through out the body. Now azhvar turns towards his mind and advices it to be in divine service forever.
Soozh kazhal- encompassing divine feet; That which traps the devotees into its fold;
